VINELAND — Piles of rubble and dirt are what’s left of the former Limpert Brothers Inc. factory after weeks of demolition efforts paid for by the city.
The future of the old confections manufacturing facility at 200 North West Boulevard is to host a replacement Vineland Fire Department headquarters and station. There is no announcement yet for when that process will start, Director Richard Franchetta said.
Department headquarters now is at 110 N. Fourth Street, off Wood Street. Station 6, the city’s paid firefighter station, also uses the site and also will relocate.
Vineland hired New Road Construction Management Co. of Cherry Hill in November 2021 to supervise the demolition and construction project.
The city hired Winzinger Inc. of Hainesport in June 2022 to do the demolition. The company said Wednesday that it expects to be finished by Thanksgiving.
Vineland acquired the Limpert Brothers property, roughly 4.1 acres at 200 North West Boulevard, for $100 at a sheriff’s sale on April 7.
The confection-making business closed in December 2019, after operating there for nearly a century after relocating from New York City.
As of 2021, the city was envisioning a roughly 35,000-square-foot Fire Department facility on the site.
